The island of Iž is located between the islands of Ugljan, Rava and Dugi Otok. It is surrounded by a dozen smaller islands. It has been inhabited since prehistoric times. In the 10th century it was mentioned by Constantine Porphyrogenitus called Ez and in the medieval ages it was owned by the Zadar nobility.

Iž is the only island in Dalmatia where the inhabitants are engaged in pottery. The ethnographic collection of Veli Iz still keepy copies of authentic Iž pottery and tools of traditional pottery crafts. Iž is also included in the list of protected immaterial goods of Croatia. Unfortunately, today, this craft is slowly dying.

The hill Korinjak is the highest point of the island and you can walk along a path that leads to the peak with a view of the bay, Veli Iz and islands in the area. At the end of July, the "Iz Festival" which has a tradition since ancient times is organized. At that time the locals dress up in traditional costumes and perform old island dances and songs, and guests can taste local dishes as well. The central event of this event is the choice of "Iž king".

The island of Iž is ideal for a quiet holiday, and if you are looking for recreation, you can surf, water ski, sail and dive. Be sure to take the trip to National Park Kornati that will delight you with numerous islands and islets.
